Karlstad Sofa Review

Can you believe that the Karlstad has been out of stock for two months?! Just as I was redecorating my house from coastal to modern, they had to up and have a problem with the manufacturer! I’m being patient and have been told they will be back in stock at the end of August or beginning of September. I’m totally kvetching that they’ll discontinue it. So, my remodel is “on hold” until I can get the sofa and “build” around it. Alex, the IKEA catalog says the longest length of the 2+3/3+2 Karlstad (just the corner sofa without the chaise) is 111″ long. Can you do me a favor and measure just the longest portion of your Karlstad WITHOUT the chaise and tell me if that’s true? For some reason, 111″ sure sounds bigger than it actually looks in the picture.

How to transform your Karlstad with Bemz Bemz has three different styles of cover for the Karlstad series, each offering a distinctly personal look for your model. Regular Fit our most popular style, comes in the complete range of Bemz colours and patterns.
It’s made to fit the exact dimensions of your Karlstad and is based on IKEA’s original cover style. Regular Fit with Long Skirt additionally also offers a skirt which hides your sofa legs and gives it a different look. Loose Fit Urban comes in an exclusive pure linen fabric – perfect if you like simplicity and innovative design. It has a looser fit and clearly marked seams. The straight ends give the cover an angular shape, resulting in an entirely new and modern appearance.

Nice! I personally prefer the lines of the Karlstad, but I know our cat and future kids would appreciate those wide Kivik arms. For what it’s worth, I blogged about the leather Karlstad to infinity; including the link in case anyone here finds it helpful. We STILL haven’t pulled the trigger on the white leather Karlstad, but I dragged Grant to Ikea and he concurs that that is the couch for us.

Interesting to hear how so many comments about the Kivik being better quality. I couldn’t disagree more. I always thought the Kivik looked like junk in the store. I have a Karlstad chair, and I think the Karlstad cushions are excellent quality, and the design very appealing and timeless. I’ve always noticed how the Kivik cushions in the store are completely out of shape, while the Karlstad cushions remain in good shape. People beat on those things in the store, so I take that as a pretty good test of quality. Or at least which products to avoid. I’d also want to know something about that memory foam in the Kivik. I’ve read cheap memory foam is loaded with VOC’s.

Karlstad Sofa Review

I owned a Karlstad sofa for 3 years but had to leave it behind when I moved back to Australia after living abroad. It was the best sofa I ever owned. We had lots of houseguests who would sleep on it as it makes a decent bed if you remove the two back cushions. I also loved that I could turn the cushions around or flip them over to hide any stains and to even out the wear so that no lumps or sags form (many sofas have plain fabric on the bottom side of the cushion which don't allow for this). And with two little ones who would sit, jump, play, e Read more at and at times even be sick or do an accidental wee on it, I regularly pulled off the cover and threw it into the washing machine on a delicate wash and it came out looking brand new (even though the instructions say not to!). Now we're looking to buy a sofa for our new house and I've been to at least ten different stores – some of them selling IKEA-quality furniture but at massively inflated prices. I am seriously considering buying another Karlstad and replacing the timber legs (which make it look a little cheap) with metal ones.

Louise Purvis Brisbane, Queensland, Australia 4 reviews 2 helpful votes Private message Love it 5 out of 5, reviewed on Apr 17, 2015 We purchased a Karlstad sofa with chaise a couple of years ago and we love it. Very comfy to sit on, the cushions still have their same shape and it really doesn't even need “fluffing” up. We ended up buying a different lounge for the other room and I'm regretting it. Should have saved the difference and just bought another Karlstad. The washable covers are a bit of a pain to get off so I wouldn't be washing them every week but with kids it's great to know you CAN wash them. Some covers do say dry clean only though so check which one you're getting. Purchased at: IKEA Similar opinion? Write a review! 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes

Let me start by saying I love my Ikea Karlstad couches and by far get the most questions asked about them on Instagram and my blog, however the cover we originally chose has since been discontinued. On top of that it is a bit of an awkward shade of grey. In some rooms it looks true grey but in most it looks blue grey, and I mean blue blue grey, so although people loved it, I have been on the hunt to freshen up our Ikea couches for some time. My husband and I originally looked into just purchasing a new sofa cover from Ikea. I wanted to make our sofa and love seat look similar to some Restoration Hardware couches I had fallen in love with that were a soft sand beige. The closest Ikea has in a Karlstad cover to this is lindo beige. The color wasn’t exactly the light and airy beige I was going for and at $329 for a not so perfect for me cover, I figured we should just keep searching.

Reply Krista March 5, 2013 at 9:34 pm I absolutely love that I cam across this. I have been reading younghouselove for a while now and they inspired me to look at getting a sectional for my living room. Not wanting to be a copycat I looked around for ages but living in Labrador (yeah, lets not talk about how much fun shipping the Karlstad here is going to be) my options were pretty limited. I bought something on sale at the local Leon’s and I have been regretting it ever since. I am so glad to hear that you were having a struggle accepting the Karlstad at first too but pulled the trigger and loved it. I still haven’t ordered it… I need to wait until spring so that the 6 ft of snow is clear of the door that it all needs to come in through… but I am feeling much better about it now tha tI have read a second raving review!
